CSG's research programme

CSG Centre for Society and the Life Sciences conducts social, ethical and philosophical research about or inspired by the life sciences. Many of CSG’s research projects are conducted in close cooperation with life science research institutes. Thus, the researchers are closely connected with life science researchers. In this way, insights and findings of CSG projects are important for life science research, but also for societal stakeholders, industry, policy and politics. In addition to life science researchers, other stakeholders are involved in the set-up and implementation of the projects.
The current research programme started in 2008 and will run untill 2013. The programme consists of 50 research projects, of which 60% are PhD projects and 40% are postdoc projects. Most of the projects have started in 2008 and 2009. The first projects are in their final stage. Projects are carried out at thirteen universities and university medical centres, and can be divided into five themes:

• Communication and education
• Health
• Animals and environment
• Agriculture and food
• DNA-data and information

A programme committee consisting of CSG’s management team and six principal investigators develops and monitors CSG’s projects. The principal investigators are distinguished scientists within their own field of study.
